The top 50 most common childhood memories

Last modified on Wednesday 24 August 2016

Ah, our childhood memories. So many happy moments stick out, from paddling in the sea, to lazing on the grass making daisy chains. Now, a new survey reveals the top childhood memories that stay with us forever.

It turns out that most of us recall paddling in the sea and exploring rock pools, which are both included in the list of the 50 most common, childhood memories in Britain.

In fact, nearly three quarters (73%) of those who took part in the poll, by New Covent Garden Soup, said the beach played a large part.

It appears that our strongest childhood memories are more than 10 times as likely to be events that took place in the summer, compared to any other season.

This is no surprise, as we all look back on the long, sunny, summer weeks that, as a child, seemed to roll on forever and gave us so much time to play.

Check out the list below, and see how many memories you can tick off.

The survey also revealed that busy working parents today worry that they don't make enough time to make as many happy memories with their own children. And they're concerned that our children's many gadgets mean they don't spend as long simply playing outdoors and having the same adventures we remember.

As many as 74% of parents feel it’s harder for modern families to make time for each other, without distraction.

Here's to making some more happy memories with our kids!
