The MAJOR change coming to Tesco Clubcard vouchers (and shoppers aren't happy)

The supermarket has announced a huge change to its Clubcard vouchers – which can be redeemed on days out and restaurant meals – and it's set to leave families worse off

There's a HUGE change coming to Tesco Clubcard vouchers which will see shoppers losing out – and they're not happy.

The giant supermarket has announced that the value of Tesco Clubcard vouchers – which can be redeemed on things such as meals in restaurants and days out – will be cut from this summer.

And it's bad news for families who rely on Clubcard vouchers to make significant savings for their family.

What is the change and when is it coming in?

Tesco has announced that from 14 June this year, Clubcard points will be worth twice their value when customers redeem them – NOT 3 times as much.

Points are currently worth 3 times the value – meaning that for every £1 of points collected, customers can get £3 to spend on day trips or restaurant meals through a rewards partner.

However, from this summer, Clubcard vouchers will only be worth double their value if exchanged at any of Tesco's 100 reward partners, meaning vouchers won't go as far as they used to on trips for the family.

How can shoppers use their Clubcard points?

The Clubcard scheme allows customers to collect points when they spend money at the supermarket. These vouchers can be used to get money off a Tesco shop, or exchanged for vouchers to use at places such as Legoland, Pizza Express and Zizzi, among others.

So, how does it work?

Each time you spend a pound in-store or online, you'll get 1 point when you scan your card or your app.

Each point is worth 1p, so 100 points will be worth £1.

Once you've collected a number of points, you can exchange them for vouchers to use in store, at the face value of the points, or boost their value by redeeming them at one of Tesco's reward partners.

It's a vital help for families who are already feeling the pinch due to the cost-of-living crisis , with many in uproar about the change coming to the vouchers.

What do parents think?

Taking to Twitter, many parents were angered by the news that vouchers would now be worth LESS than they were.

One person wrote:

'Dear @tesco. Just got your email to tell me that the clubcard voucher exchange value is now worth only up to 2x as much, not up to 3x the value anymore. Really disappointing, as we love our Clubcard treats. Not that long ago they were worth up to 4x the value. #tescoclubcard.'

'Poor decision @Tesco I think this will bite you in the long run,' wrote another.

'Outrageous move by Tesco Clubcard,' said a third.

And a fourth wrote:

'Main reason I hadn't switched to Aldi or Lidl was because we use points for family meals out etc...one step closer to ditching Tesco now!'

But others weren't so bothered:

'Never used them anyway,' said one Twitter user.

What do Tesco say?

In a message to shoppers, Alessandra Bellini, Chief Customer Officer at Tesco, said the change would 'make sure we can continue to provide you with a wide range of exciting rewards, whilst keeping our product prices low'.

She added that the time period that Clubcard rewards would be valid for would increase from 6 months to 12, to enable shoppers to use points at their higher value before the changes come in.
