We all want our children to live in a world that is as beautiful as we can make it and we also want to ensure they are always healthy and protected.
One small way we can help is to make sure that the products we buy for our children have little impact on the planet – and buying biodegradable or eco-friendly nappies is a great way to start.
And there's some great ones out there, including some from Spice Girl Emma Bunton.
Here are some of the best eco-friendly nappies around!
Kit & Kin
Did you know that Kit & Kin is a nappy company not only formed by former Spice Girl Emma Bunton, but it owns and protects rainforests? They use the pulp for their eco nappies and plant new trees.
These nappies are very absorbent, are hypoallergenic so they are great for skin sensitivities and are made from plant-based sustainable materials. Inside is chlorine-free fluff pulp inner that locks away wetness. They have good cuffs that form a moisture barrier around the legs and waist and help prevent leaks.
The stretchy waist and side panels fit snugly on your baby’s body while allowing freed movement. Each has a cute animal character on the bottom that’s printed with natural vegetable inks. The company also makes a donation to the World Land Trust for every pack of nappies sold.
Eco by Naty
Eco by Naty Nappies are soft and comfortable and are an eco-alternative to disposable nappies. They are breathable and fit snugly. They are free from chlorine, latex, fragrances and TBT (tributyltin), and don’t use oil-based plastics. All of this means that they are suitable for your baby’s delicate skin and won’t cause reactions or allergies. The pulp inside that nappy is made from sustainably harvested Scandinavian trees, with the waterproofing film being made from corn starch and biodegradable polyester.
Beaming Baby Biodegradable Nappies
Naturally breathable against baby's skin, the outer is made from natural cotton and corn starch fibres, with the interior made from ‘fluff,’ which is like very finely shredded paper.
It also uses both biodegradable and standard gel to absorb moisture. This is not as environmentally friendly as using no standard gel but does give a good performance while reducing plastic-derived waste, using 30% less chemicals than standard disposable nappies.
They promise to last for up to 12 hours and have a chamomile and ylang-ylang infusion that not only smells lovely but also helps protect your baby's skin.
Bambo Nature
These award-winning nappies can be used at home, or they also offer travel packs that are great for holidays. They’re breathable, with a soft top sheet that feels like fabric and is gentle to your baby’s skin.
The side panels are thin and flexible to help your baby move and this also means they fit well. They have an absorbent core and the top layer locks away wetness to keep your baby’s skin dry.
They’re also dermatologically tested and made with sustainably sourced FSC certified fluff and biodegradable pulp. They have no chlorine, bleach, optical brighteners, latex, phthalates, perfumes, PVC, petrochemicals, alcohol, DHDM or triclosan.
