Struggling families can get a free hot meal in supermarket cafe

You'll just need to say this discreet code to get your meal for free

If you're struggling to afford necessities during the cost of living crisis, Morrisons has launched a scheme which might be able to offer your family some help this half term.

In collaboration with Heinz, the supermarket's cafe is offering visitors who say a discreet phrase a free jacket potato with baked beans.

From today (26 October) until 6 November, customers who 'ask for Henry' at the till point in the cafes can get the meal.

While there are no eligibility requirements to receive the hot meal, there is a limit of one per customer per day and the scheme will only continue while stocks last.

Morrisons and Heinz will be dishing out more than 160,000 of the hot meals in the supermarket's almost 400 cafes.

To find your local cafe, you can use the store locator tool on the Morrisons website.

If you're wondering why you need to 'ask for Henry,' the phrase honours the founder of the Heinz brand, Henry J Heinz.

Speaking about the initiative, Heinz's boss in Northern Europe, Jojo De Noronha, said:

'We believe everyone deserves the goodness, comfort and warmth a can of Heinz Beanz can bring, and whilst we know it doesn’t fix the problem, we hope our ‘ask for Henry’ initiative can be of some help at this difficult time for many, particularly over half term.'

The poster advertising the scheme reads:

'We want to give a little helping hand this half term... something our founder Henry Heinz was known for. Just 'Ask for Henry' at a Morrisons cafe and get a warming and hearty jacket potato with Beanz on us.'

After the poster was shared on social media by Skint Dad, a news and media website, one user commented:

'I think it's a wonderful idea. I wouldn't personally use it as I'm lucky enough to not need it but so many homeless or poor families do. If someone is really hungry and in need there would be nothing to complain, it's warm free meal.'

Another wrote: 'Lovely thing to do but tragic that this needs to even be a thing in this day and age.'
