Shaughna Phillips begs fans not to share 'horror stories' as she prepares to be induced

Last modified on Thursday 6 April 2023

The Love Islander is due to be induced this weekend, and has asked followers to stop 'mum shaming' her for the decision, saying their stories are making her anxious

Pregnant Love Islander Shaughna Phillips has revealed she's been booked in for an induction after going over her due date – but has asked fans to stop sending her their warnings.

The reality star, 28, is expecting her 1st child with boyfriend Billy Webb and, while their baby was meant to be born in March, Shaughna revealed she's now going to be having an April baby.

Shaughna's original due date was on 25 March and the star revealed she's already had 2 sweeps – where the doctor or midwife sweeps a finger around the cervix in the hope of starting labour – but they were unsuccessful.

Yesterday she told her followers she would be having a further procedure at the weekend, writing:

'Induction booked for Sunday. My March babe clearly wants to be an April babe like their mama.'

After posting the photo, Shaughna was inundated with stories about other people's inductions, which led her to speak out on social media, saying that the horror stories were making her anxious.

And while Shaughna didn't go into detail about the messages she was sent, it's thought many were trying to warn her about their own experiences.

Many of you have also spoken about your experiences with being induced i n our Forum and the NHS states that inductions – where labour is started artificially – can be more painful than going into labour naturally, saying:

'Induced labour is usually more painful than labour that starts on its own, and you may want to ask for an epidural.'

A polite request

In the next story, Shaughna shared a written note saying

'A polite request.

'Please refrain from sending me your horror stories of being induced, or your opinions on why me being induced is wrong for my baby.'

Shaughna then went on to add that the stories she was being sent were 'not helpful' and 'the last thing' she needed to hear.

'The last thing I need to hear'

She added:

'I appreciate you may mean well, but it is not helpful. As a first time mum, you will know the anxiety I am already feeling, and the last thing I need to hear is horrible experiences or being mum shamed.'

But, in the same story, Shaughna added that she'd also been inundated with positive stories.

'Thank you for all the lovely messages I've received,' she wrote. 'They far outweigh the negative ones.'

'Our greatest chapter yet…'

Shaughna and partner Billy announced they were to become parents in October, when the reality TV star shared the happy news in an emotional video on Instagram, which she captioned:

'Our greatest chapter yet… ✨🤍'.

A series of video clips show Shaughna, 28, at a baby scan, revealing her joy at a positive pregnancy test, sharing the news with her friends and family and visiting the grave of her father, Eddie, who died in 2016.

Shaughna may be raising her child on her own as partner Billy was arrested for drugs offences in January and if found guilty, could be facing up to 16 years in jail.

Shaughna and boyfriend Billy started dating in April 2022, but the celeb has kept him out of the limelight, revealing that she wanted to keep her relationship private due to the criticism she has faced in the past.

She said, at the time:

'It’s just private and I think also when you post things all over social media, there are people out there who have no idea who you are but will do anything they can to try and ruin your happiness.'

What is an induction?

An induction is usually given if a mum-to-be has gone over her due date and is a way of helping things along by starting the labour process artificially. Usually performed when you're late term, at about 41 weeks pregnant, this artificial process is designed to get your baby out safely when things aren't happening naturally.
