  • 110g plain flour, sifted

  • salt (just a pinch)

  • sugar (just a pinch)

  • 2 eggs (you need to use 1 whole egg and 1 yolk)

  • 284ml milk (1/2 a pint)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil (or butter - plus more for greasing the pan)

  • Nutella (1x large jar)

  1. Sift the plain flour into a mixing bowl, add a pinch of salt and a pinch of sugar, then make a small well in the middle

  2. Crack one egg into the well, then add the yolk from the other and a little milk - stir

  3. Gradually add the rest of the milk and stir/whisk until smooth

  4. Add the oil and beat until smooth - leave to rest

  5. Heat a little oil in a frying pan and when it's hot, add about three tablespoons of batter

  6. Leave to cook for 1 minute then flip

  7. Cook the other side then transfer the cooked pancake to a plate

  8. Repeat until all the batter is used up and you have approximately 12 cooked pancakes

  9. Spread a large dollop of Nutella on each pancake, fold in half and serve

Tips

These pancakes with Nutella are a deliciously decadent spin on the traditional crepes recipe, perfect for dessert on Pancake Day. This recipe makes approximately 12 pancakes.

Your kids will love mixing the batter, and older kids can even try their hand at flipping the pancakes. Just make sure to put out napkins for when you're spooning the sticky Nutella onto each pancake...

If you have time, make the pancake batter in advance and leave it to rest before cooking your pancakes - you can refrigerate overnight if you want to have them for breakfast.

To serve you can fold the pancakes up into triangles like In the picture or try rolling them up like these Roly poly apple and raspberry pancakes!

Variations

This recipe keeps it simple and just uses Nutella, but you can add cream (if you want to be really naughty) or chopped up fruit.

Pancakes with Nutella go extremely well with bananas , strawberries and berries . Add some chopped hazelnuts for added crunch.

For an even nuttier taste, swap out the Nutella to make peanut butter pancakes – you could even mix Nutella and peanut butter or almond butter if you have it in the cupboard.

One of our readers suggests adding a scoop of cold ice-cream onto a hot Nutella pancake for a delicious dessert!

If you're crazy about chocolate, why not double up with chocolate-flavoured pancakes too?

For a full chocolate treat try replacing a tablespoon or two of flour with cocoa powder or hot chocolate powder.
