I told my midwife that I used to smoke cannabis and she now referred me to social services. What does this mean? What action will social services take? I just feel worried about it and I don’t want to be involved with them at all.. someone please help.

Hi Lubna, try not to worry too much. Your midwife's actions sound quite drastic but it depends on the circumstances. Have you smoked cannabis until recently i e. your pregnancy? If this is the case then the midwife could put you in touch with some cessation services so you can stay off it. Well done on stopping - that's the main thing. The midwife might also want to test your urine throughout the pregnancy. So long as you are managing not to relapse, social services won't be concerned. You could ask your midwife for clarity on why she has referred and what information was shared which might help you to understand it better. Good luck with your pregnancy.
