Hi I’m really worried about my little boy he turned 2 in January he doesn’t point wave or talk . He does babble. He can eat and drink by himself but we still have to put him in high chair as he would walk off from table. He can open books and just recently started putting shapes into slots . I went to the zoo today and I was trying to get him to look at animals instead he would rather touch the fence or a bolt. I do believe he has started turning to his name now. He can follow some instructions but I’m not sure if that’s just routine putting arms up when getting undressed putting feet out to put shoes on.

has anyone else had this experience with their children? Thank you

Hi Let M,

I'm Emma, one of the Parent Supporters here at Netmums. I can hear you are concerned about your LO's development at the moment but from what you have described it sounds like he is doing many age appropriate behaviours. There is a great site from the BBC called 'Tiny, Happy People' which sets out developmental markers and provides guidance on what is considered in the 'normal' range, including tips to try if you are concerned. If your concerns continue, reach out to your health visitor and/or GP who will be able to assist you further.

Take care,

Emma

Hi, my daughter is 4 now and doesn't talk, she's waiting for a diagnosis of autism but the lack of speech has always been a worry, you could try speaking to your health visitor or gp they can refer you to a paediatrician and speech therapy etc, im still holding onto hope my daughter will talk still my brother for example didn't talk until he was 6! Xx
