The sun is shining which means one thing: it’s picnic time. But while eating al fresco is lovely, deciding what to pack for your weaning baby (that won’t make a mess on your blanket!) can be tricky.

Especially as your little one has already worked out how much fun it is to play with their food ...

To give you a helping hand we’ve rounded up the nutritious picnic must-haves for your baby that are easy to eat and (practically) mess-free.

1. Meal pouches

Picnics can take a LOT of prep, especially if you have a weaning baby in tow. Take the hard work out of your on-the-go meals by popping a meal pouch in your bag.

FREE NEWBORN NAPPIES

Aldi Mamia Meal Pouches are organic and come in a range of baby-friendly recipes including Spaghetti Bolognese with Cheese , Chicken Casserole with Rice and Beef Casserole with Vegetables .

There’s no need to heat them up, they’re super tasty served straight from the pouch and squeezed onto a spoon or into a little bowl.

The 69p pouches are suitable for babies ages seven months plus.

2. Rice cakes

Looking for snacks that are easy to eat? Then add a pack of rice cakes to your picnic bag.

Small enough for little hands to hold, why not try Aldi Mamia Organic Apple Mini Rice Cakes and Organic Raspberry & Blueberry Rice Cakes.

The puffed organic mini rice cakes are vegan-friendly and contain vitamin B1. Suitable for babies aged seven months and above, the 40g packs are just 65p each.

3. Fruit pouches

From bananas to berries, your baby LOVES fruit. But as you know from weaning your baby at home, it can end up squashed on the high chair, on the floor and on you. Eww.

That’s why another picnic essential for your baby is fruit pouches. Packed with nutritious fruit, there’s no chopping, slicing (or squishing.)

Aldi Mamia Organic Fruit Pouches cost just 39p each and are suitable for babies aged four months and older, making them perfect for the first stage of weaning.

The pouches are all made with 100% fruit puree and come in a range of flavours including Mango , Prunes or Pears .

4. Carrot puffs

Your weaning baby is learning how to pick up food and how to put it in their mouths. Carrot puffs are easy to eat and big enough for them to practice this new-found skills at home or on-the-go.

They're also a great addition for your picnic bag. Try Mamia Carrot Puffs or Mamia Tomato Wheels. They’re both organic, have no added salt and are suitable for little ones aged seven months and above.

And don’t forget the baby wipes …

No picnic is complete without a pack of wipes to clean little faces and hands, especially when you’re in the weaning stage.

Mamia Biodegradable Wipes are totally plastic-free and made from 100% biodegradable plant-based fibres. They naturally decompose when you’ve used them, meaning they’re better for the planet.
