Hi looking for some advice, tips or tricks you have used to stop breastfeeding, my daughter is 2.5 and has been breastfeeding since birth however she has never wanted to stop breastfeeding not even when I returned to work when she was 1, we have managed to cut day time breast feeds using a sticker chart however night time is a nightmare, we cosleep at the moment and she just helps herself all night long, some nights she will sleep for 1 hour then be wide awake again. We are going to transition her into her own bed and bedroom soon however I need advice and support on how to stop breastfeeding at night, I have the book booby moon which we read together every night however she falls asleep on the boob still and I can’t seem to find anything else to comfort her to sleep, she refuses to cuddle to sleep. The other thing is whenever I try and leave once she’s asleep she wakes up, I get no time to myself apart from when I’m at work which isn’t time to myself as I’m at work. I am just feeling so down about it all now.

thank you

Hi Nicola

Stopping breastfeeding can be challenging for some as our LOs have something they use not only for milk feeds but for comfort. Like breaking any habit it can be tough but it also can be done.

You may find How do I stop breastfeeding? | Baby & toddler, Feeding articles & support | NCT helpful.

If your looking to change the bedtime routine some parents may want to focus on either stopping breastfeeding or moving routines whilst some will go for one big change. There is no right or wrong way to approach this, its about what you want to do and what you feel comfortable in implementing.

I hope others will come and share their experiences to offer some reassurance and top tips that may have worked well for them.

Best wishes

Emma
