I’m a single mum of son who’s 14 (nearly 15). Lately I’ve been getting worried (so has he) about the lack of changes with his body, does anyone have any advice? Should I just wait and see?

Thank you, I am leaning more towards taking him to the GP but I also don’t want to make him worry more by making it ‘official’ if that makes sense. I’ve been thinking about waiting until he’s 15 and if nothing has changed go then. I just don’t know what to say to him

Bless him. My son was the same. Some are just later than others and it is really tough on them. At 14 my son looked 11. At 18 going to university he looked 14. But during his GCSE yea, 15 - 16, physical changes really started to happen. He is 22 now and finally looks his age! A lot of it is genetic - I was a late developer. Were you or your partner?

Thank you Jo for the kind reply. Sorry to hear your son went through something similar but it sounds like it all sorted itself out which is great. Do you mind if I ask what did you/he first start to notice when he started getting changes? I was a late bloomer yeah, didn’t get my period until mid teens!

My younger sons almost 16 and he’s always looked way younger than he is. He actually looks more like a 12 year old.

He is finally getting a taller and I believe turning 16 soon will see a lot of changes in his body.

I would just wait until he’s at least 16 and don’t make him worry now. All kids develop at different stages.

My two other sons looked their age and developed a lot sooner.

Thank you for the reassurance! I’ve decided to contact the GP and we have an appointment next week hopefully, although he’s a bit nervous for it
