Hi All, I’m currently 4 weeks pregnant and experiencing some bleeding. It’s lighter than my usual period and comes with light cramps :( obviously this is a really worrying time so just I wondered if anyone has any success stories with bleeding during pregnancy? I want to add that I’ve I’ve conceived two naturally (now 11 & 17) but this time I underwent IVF and had two embryos transferred :) I’m testing positive but bleeding too.. sooo confusing and worrying!

Sorry you are going through this. I have had 5 pregnancies (3 children + 2mc) I've had bleeds like you described in all of them even the healthy ones. It's very common. Has it happened since? Cramps are also normal. I've always had mild period like cramps in early pregnancy.

Hi Scarlett,

I’m Kayleigh, one of the parent supporters at Netmums. I’m sorry to hear that you are left worried after experiencing some bleeding. Experiencing bleeding doesn’t always mean something is wrong, but it is recommended to speak with a health professional to investigate this. Tommy’s have some more information here that may be helpful: https://www.tommys.org/pregnancy-information/pregnancy-symptom-checker/bleeding-pregnancy

You could contact 111, or your local early pregnancy unit. If you are unsure of the contact details for your local service you can have a look here: https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/other-services/Maternity%20services/LocationSearch/1802

Take care,

Kayleigh

Hi Jaye and thank you for replying :) the blood has almost completely stopped now, but there is still the tiniest amount of dark brown, almost dried blood that I can see in my liner every couple of days… The cramps have eased, and I’m just hoping that the bleeding doesn’t start again! Thank you so much for responding to my post as it’s so reassuring to read stories like this! You’ve made me feel so much better:-) it’s a long wait until my first scan so I’ve just got everything crossed xxx

This can be quite normal. Something like 40% of women bleed in early pregnancy. If it hasn't turned period like then stay positive. You can perhaps book a private scan if you are too worried to wait. A local place here charges £45 for a quick reassurance scan.

Hope all is well :)

Also it could have been implantation bleeding. Look it up.
