HELP!! My 11 year old has changed she was the most bubbly outgoing confident child then something changed and I just don’t know what to do or what’s going on. So we moved her school last year due to people been really mean to her in previous school saying things like she eats like a pig (she does not) and calling her a lizard cos of her exma it got really bad to the point of she really didn’t want to go to school so we moved her she loved new school was really happy then 3 months ago everything change she started saying she feels sick all the time doesn’t want to go to school. She had a massive panic attack at school we’ve tried getting her to school but she’s been maybe 3 days in the last 1.5 months school we’re trying to work with her but I think they have got frustrated with her as the days she goes in she just kicks off and carry’s on cos she wants to be at home (dad works from home) I’ve asked her if she’s been bullied at school she says no. Me and dad normally go on a work holiday ones a year she’s always been ok with it this year I’ve had to stay home because she was sobbing for hours I personally think once she new I was on the plane and gone she’d of been ok as does her sister. She asked me if her friend could stay over tonight I said yeh if you want then 30 mins later said she didn’t want her to and felt anxious about it again that’s not like her she’s always had friends over. When I’ve sat and talked to her she says she had all these feelings and she just doesn’t no what’s going on everything is so jumbled. Her words I just want to be happy old me. 😢

Hi Gemma

I'm Catherine, one of the Parent Supporters here at Netmums. Thanks for reaching out.

I can hear how hard it has been to watch your daughter go through all that - it sounds like it has been a really tough time for you all. You mention you notice that 'she started saying she feels sick all the time doesn’t want to go to school. She had a massive panic attack at school' around 3 months ago but you're not sure of the trigger. Have you been able to chat to school to see if they know if anything has happened? Would they be offer some support to your daughter?

Gemma, I wonder if you have spoken to your GP about your worries about your daughter? I think it would it be worthwhile to make an appointment as she might benefit from a referral to your local CAMHS or a young person's counselling service to chat through some of the things that have happened. Sometimes, at her age that's easier to do with a neutral person that family members.

In the meantime, I'm going to link the Young Minds website here. It's an excellent resource around supporting young people with sections for both parents and young people and it might be something you and your daughter find helpful. Here's the link: What is Anxiety? | Symptoms of Anxiety & Getting Help | YoungMinds

Hopefully some of our lovely community will be along soon to offer support but please come back to us if you would like to chat some more.

Take care

Catherine
