Hi,

My LO used to do a 5/4-hr stretch then 3-hr, then 2-hr then up. This was prior to 12-weeks, he then had a cold around 12-weeks and his sleep tanked to 2-hrly, he’s now 16-weeks abs still 2-hrly.

How long does this last? He’s EBF and i’m exhausted. He also won’t settle in crib as he just waves his arms and legs in the sleeping bag and I end up with him in the bed. He won’t take a bottle at all or dummy and he’s constantly chewing his hands.

EBF is around 7-mins each feed.

He gets Infant Gaviscon for Reflux.

I just need some reassurance that it will settle soon. Mama need sleep and he refuses to be put down for a nap, constantly wants held so I can’t even sleep when he does.

Hi Christine

Thank you for posting.

Feeding patterns can change in LOs for many different reasons. Some babies will have longer stretches whilst some will feed every 2 hours and that can for babies that are fed both breast or formula milk.

I wonder if having a breastfeed observed and a more in depth discussion around your LOs feeding will help offer reassurance for you. Your local health visiting team may be able to offer this or a local breastfeeding group.

This way they will be able to let you know if all is well or whether there is anything additional you can be offering/adjusting that can help support your breastfeeding journey.

In the meantime you can always contact National Breastfeeding Helpline – Helpline if needing support.

Best wishes

I've had this with my LO who is very demamding too! We eventually got to the point where he can sleep next to me and feed during the night, but I'm still able to sleep without too much interuption. Obviously it does depend on your body type being able to BF lying down, I guess I'm lucky there lol
