Pregnancy is an exciting time but it can also be a bit daunting, especially if it’s your first baby. Luckily there are lots of simple ways to get prepped for pregnancy AND the arrival of your little one.

From having the perfect pair of maternity jeans for your shape, to doing your nappy research and getting your hospital bag packed and ready to go, pregnancy confidence is all about feeling prepared for every eventuality. Here are nine ways to give yourself a boost …

1. Filter what you read

From social media to blogs and websites, there’s a LOT of information about pregnancy and childbirth. But while some of it is super helpful (including Netmums, obvs!) much of it is not. And yes, that does include your mates posts on Facebook about their ‘awful’ labour.

Build your confidence as you go through each trimester by being selective about what you read. If it makes you feel happy and informed, go for it. If it leaves you worried or anxious, block it.

2. Rock your maternity wardrobe

Your body is changing fast, and it’s not just your bump that’s growing. Your boobs and even your feet could get bigger. (Yes, really!) Which means that for now at least, it’s time to ditch your old clothes and find some staple maternity pieces that help you embrace your new shape.

Along with floaty dresses which are ideal in every trimester, a pair of maternity jeans is a wardrobe must-have. Shop around for your perfect pair which will see you through pregnancy and beyond. (We’ve only just stopped wearing ours!)

3. Get your changing station ready

As your due date gets nearer, it’s natural to feel apprehensive about your baby’s arrival. So prep for bringing them home by getting your changing station ready.

Along with a changing table you’ll need wipes, nappy bags and nappies. Aldi Mamia newborn nappies have Dry Fast Technology™ which means they have up to two times faster absorption. And this will leave your new baby feeling fresh and dry. They also have a clever wetness indicator which lets you know when it’s time to change your baby’s nappy.

4. Have your hospital bag ready to go

There’s no packing light when you go to hospital to give birth. Instead, you need everything from snacks and drinks to knickers and nappies.

For many mums-to-be, the thought of forgetting something essential when it’s too late (you’ve given birth and you realise you’ve forgotten the babygrows!) can be quite stressful.

To ease your anxiety and help you feel prepared, pack your hospital bag early and have it ready for when you need it. Here’s our ultimate checklist of what you need.

5. Find your support team

You’ve probably heard the phrase, ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ And it’s just as important to have supportive people around you before your baby even arrives.

Surround yourself with friends and family who build your confidence during pregnancy. You might want to chat to mates who already have kids and ask for their top tips. Or maybe you’ve got a lovely midwife who can help you with breastfeeding advice. Get your team in place and you’re good to go.

6. Do your research

Babies might be tiny but they need a lot of stuff. Seriously.

An easy way to stop yourself feeling overwhelmed at your mammoth shopping list is by doing your research so you know exactly what you’re going to get.

And it’s not just big buys like prams or cots that are important. Given your newborn will need changing 10 to 12 times a day, finding the right nappies is key.

Aldi Mamia newborn nappies are ideal. Not only are they Netmums Recommended , they are hypoallergenic, leak proof ... and great value for money.

7. Treat yourself

Your body is amazing and is working hard to grow your baby. So give yourself some TLC (and a big pat on the back) for being such a brilliant mummy-to-be.

Book in for a pregnancy massage, hit the shops or simply take time out every day just for you. You deserve it.

8. Write your birth plan

Feeling like you have a plan is a good way to help you feel more confident in all sorts of situations … including pregnancy and birth. So writing a birth plan in your second or third trimester can be really helpful.

Think about how you’ll have your baby – this might be a water birth or caesarean – and what pain relief you’d like. You might also want to think about birth positions and where you want to give birth (at home or at hospital for example).

Just bear in mind that labour can be unpredictable, so being flexible is key.

9. Be positive

A lovely way to increase your mental wellbeing and confidence is by telling yourself how awesome you are. Every day.

These positive affirmations – words or phrases that you can say to yourself or write on post it notes and stick around the house – are great for keeping a positive mindset.
