Hello, I am 17 weeks pregnant with my first child and getting anxious as I haven't felt any movements yet .. I know it's different for everyone but keen to know at what point you started to feel things?

I've read 15-20 weeks is a good range for women to start feeling movement and flutters. It feels like a little tiny wiggle, and at first you won't notice it unless you are lying down on your left side at night, as when you are not moving, the baby is not being rocked to sleep and has shorter wake cycles so you will be most likely to feel the flutters when you're settling down for bed not moving. At first, we are too physically active to notice them, and only tend to notice the faint flutters when we are at rest and not distracted.

And don't worry at all please. This is a concern for every single woman the first time she has a baby..we were all wondering, when am I going to finally feel him or her..is she/he ok in there?? 99% of the time they are just fine and you will soon.

On my 1st I was 16 weeks and even the midwife said that was early 3 years later on my 2nd I'd say I was a good 21 weeks and I don't know if this was a factor but I was super skinny on baby no1 and on baby no2 I was a good two stone heavier its such an exciting time enjoy every moment it gets quite full on once baby arrives that's for sure xx

Hi,

I was 22 weeks when I first felt small movements.

Some do feel there baby earlier but everyone is different. I’m a Midwife and in my experience I would say that a majority feel baby around/after they have had their anomaly scan around 20-22 weeks. Especially with their first.

I would try not to worry. Did you have your community Midwife appointment last week and hear the baby’s heartbeat then? Hopefully that gave you some reassurance. X
