Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience in this area. Docs aren't being the most helpful.

Our little girl had a rectal prolapse back in January, just one and that was it.

Friday, she had another and every poo since it's prolapsing again.

Since the prolapse on Friday, she seems to have diarrhoea. We initially thought she'd picked up a bug, but the diarrhoea is so inconsistent (runny poos Friday and Saturday evening, no poos at all Sunday, runny poos Monday evening, no poos yesterday and runny poos this afternoon). To me, that doesn't seem like a bug. No sickness and her appetite is fine. Now there's little bits of blood in her poo.

Google suggests prolapses are common at her age (2 years, 10 months). But it's now every time she poos and it's almost as if her bottom muscles are so weak that she can't hold onto her poo.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has experience of this or a bug that has been on and off like this. Just no idea what we're dealing with.

Thank you in advance.

Hello Madeleine

I can understand very clearly why this is causing you worry.

You have been to see the GP, but you don't feel confident enough with their advice. This is never a reassuring place to be, and consequently you are left confused.

I am sure other parents will come and share their experiences, if they have anything that may help too.

I wonder Madeleine have you heard of ERIC? They are the bladder and bowel charity and their information is excellent. I am not sure if they would be able to help you here, but they do have a helpline that you could ring to explore if they could?

You can find their contact details here:

https://eric.org.uk/information/

If this does fall outside of ERIC's support, then perhaps they maybe able to suggest another signpost you could explore?

If you choose to give them a call it would be good to hear how you get on if you had chance.

Keeping in close contact with your GP to ensure that your LO gets all the helps that she needs is essential. This will also allow any changes to be noted and care and support given as necessary.

I do hope things improve for you all soon.

Sending my very best wishes to you and your family

Tracey
