Hiya all,

I just want some general advice from someone who's been there and done it.

My boy is 3, nearly 3.5. His car seat buckle broke so I went to get a new one, they checked height and weight and the shop assistants were basically stumped as what to advise. And said a high back booster is all they can provide with just a seat belt. I feel hes too young not to have a proper harness.

So I want advice from parents/guardians who have had similar, what did you do?

My son weights 24kg and is 110cm tall, currently going through a spurt.

I don't want to hear from parents on a high horse about hes too young for just a seat belt. I want practical answers please and solutions please, brands to look for ? I've only found harnesses up to 25kg.

If a harness is only up to 25kg, your left with no options. Having a child in a harness over the weight would be absolutly useless in a crash as theyd not be able to hold the weight.

High back booster with seat belt is safest for that age. Or just a booster cushion and belt x

There are rear facing seats that have a weight limit of 36kg. The Be Safe Izi Stretch and the Axkid Minikid 3. They’re not cheap but they would get your son to a safe age to use a HBB and seatbelt. You can buy them from specialist retailers and a lot of them offer in person fitting and support as well as klarna or clear pay or similar which can help with the initial cost!
