Hi all,

really want to get some others advice on my son. He’s 13 months old, only recently starting babbling but doesn’t do any complex babbbling like bababa. Will just do single babble like da or geh and this is not even consistent. Maybe will do it once or twice in the day. His hearing is fine.

he doesn’t gestures (no clapping, waving or pointing). If we bring out 2 books and ask him to put he’ll crawl over and tap one. We play ball together where he rolls is back and forth. He sits and waits and enjoys that. He understands commands, his name and some items like books.

he loves to laugh, kisses us, loves spending time with my parents. I drop him there twice a week and there’s no issues. He’s a great sleeper, sleeps through the night. Plays peek a boo and interacts with others at daycare.

Hes crawling and furniture walking. Nearly standing on his own. He bear crawls so I think he’ll walk soon.

he only recently placed an item back in a bucket himself and handed me something as well.

He likes reading with us and he can turn the pages. He’s a good eater, no fussy (apart form veges). I breastfed him up until 12 months with no issues.

im just so worried he could have ASD or another learning difficultly.

hope someone can give me some positive story!

Hi Elena,

I'm Emma, one of the Parent Supporters here at Netmums. Thank you for reaching out and describing your LO, he sounds fabulous and has many skills already! You described, 'he loves to laugh, kisses us, loves spending time with my parents... He’s a great sleeper, sleeps through the night. Plays peek a boo and interacts with others at daycare.' You are obviously doing a wonderful job raising an incredible little boy.

I hear you are concerned about his speech development and ASD but all babies develop at their own rate and it is not something professionals would be concerned about at this age given all of his other developments he is making.

The BBC have a great website, Tiny Happy People with lots of information and advice on development and speech if you would like to take a look, Children's speech and language - BBC Tiny Happy People

I know your story will resonate with many of our community members here so hopefully they will be along shortly to share their own stories too.

Best wishes,

Emma

He sounds healthy and well to me. Many many children are not saying words at 13 months. He’s eating and sleeping well and is happy 😊

Keep sharing books and talking. He will likely start to mirror your talking over the next few months.

Enjoy your time with him xxx

Hi, I think that is no concern at all. My little one is 3 and started later than 13 months for sure to babble and say proper words. They don’t actually talk so young, or in very few cases. I wouldn’t worry for now, read books, talk a lot with her and try to relax, if she responds to your other actions she’s most than likely ok.
