Hi

I really don’t know what to do. My 19 month old all of a sudden hates kids her own age being anywhere near her and screams/cries when they do. It’s so embarrassing, I don’t know what to do. She has also started trying to hit them. Can anyone help give any suggestions on how to stop this??

A couple of months ago she was fine but the last couple of weeks she’s done it at soft play and play dates with her little friends. It’s making me not want to take her anywhere and really getting me down.

I should add she goes to nursery and is in a room of 15 children all 14-24 months and they say she’s not like that there.

is this normal behaviour for this age? She’s my first child and I’m struggling with this behaviour. Are we entering the terrible twos stage?

please help.

Hi Katie

I'm Catherine, one of the Parent Supporters here at Netmums. Thanks for reaching out and sharing.

Toddlers can be really hard work at times and I'm sure what you have shared will resonate with lots of our community. At your daughter's age, there is so much is going on for her developmentally and socially. Often as mummies we are the ones who are around when things are tough, trying to support them and manage any behaviours. Have you any friends or family to support you because it can be tough? Please don't feel 'embarrassed' - hopefully you find this a safe space to share and some of our community will be along soon to offer their support.

If she's not like that a nursery she's playing up for you probably cause she wants to spend the time with you their whole life is going from phase to phase and that's probably what this is I would continue going places with her and just let her know sternly that's its not acceptable and it's better to play nicely then praise her when she does!! I know its easier said than done but honestly she will get better xx
