Any one had to become dairy free late on in breastfeeding?

it’s suspected my son has an intolerance so GP has advised I go dairy free first to see if that helps, but keep sons diet the same?

im a bit confused how that would help as surely he’s still getting dairy, or is it just that it’s easier to remove stuff from his diet at a later time ? Is dairy more concentrated in boob milk than food?

any advice would be appreciated! Thank you

Hi Samantha,

If your LO has suspected CMPA it would be best to eliminate all dairy from both his and your diet. It can take a few weeks to see the full impact so if after 4 weeks or so if there is no improvement then your GP can then look at other possible reasons for his symptoms.

Has your son been referred to the dietician for suspected allergies so you can be given more tailored support? They are best placed to offer support on how to re introduce foods if there is suspected allergies as we would want this controlled as much as possible so we can identify what foods if any he may be allergic or sensitive to.

You may find Cow's Milk Allergy | Allergy UK | National Charity helpful.

I hope this helps in some way

Best wishes

Emma

Hi Emma

thank you for taking the time to reply to me. So at present, his stool sample has been sent off to check. I’m to keep an eye on his symptoms which is only runny bowel movements but they’ve always been like this, so feel bad I’ve never had him checked sooner, but I believe this to be more an intolerance than allergy? But then once I’ve got his results and his nappies are still bad, I’ve been told to make another appointment where he can then be referred to a dietician for more help.
