So after being up essentially ALL night crying and discomfort for the last few weeks my baby has been diagnosed with not only a cows milk allergy but silent reflux too.

Her milk has been changed to nutramigen since Monday which has helped a great deal but for a few hours during the night she's struggling badly with reflux.

I've propped up her bed, started her on ranitidine (only as of today) and hold her up for 20/30 minutes after feeds. She tends to go to sleep after that but awakes suddenly in discomfort and then the cycle happens all over again. I just don't know what else I can do to help her.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I really don't know what else I could do but I really just want I help make her feel better and allow us both to get some sleep because I am really struggling. I'm at the point where I dread bed time because it's so unpredictable and I feel like such a bad mum because I can't even settle her when she gets bothered by it.

Please, please any help [emoji120]

Hey I'm going throw the same thing with My daughter lots of hospital trips as she sometimes choke and can't catch her breath for a long time it's very frightening!! She crys constantly struggling with feeds since being born she's 8weeks it's been really rough!! They put her on neocate with carabol in it they said she has a cows milk allergy which I'm not convinced it is has your little one been tested? I'm seeing a dietitian soon so hopefully will get tested. She's on ormoprozole. She's just seen peds doctors and she's having a contrast X-ray done acid Level check and a sleep study done so hopefully I will get somewhere with it all I wish I had some advice but I don't just thought I would share and let you know you are not alone xx

Aw sorry to hear your LO is the same. My daughters also 8 weeks and I never imagined it would be so difficult she's so upset unless she's sleeping really. Which she just doesn't sleep at nights and I'm so exhausted and beginning to struggle with lack of sleep.

Have you had any difference with the neocate? I'm wondering if I need to add carobel to my LOs feeds too. That's good you're seeing a dietician etc and X-rays.. no she hasn't been tested they just said to have a 4 week trial.

Hoping we both get to the bottom of it soon it's so hard [emoji17]

Hi, I gave had my LO on Nat Phos 6X for two weeks on Monday, when she will be 7 weeks, it works like a dream, I saw a difference within 24 hours, I stopped after 3 days and the symptoms returned, back on it and again amazing, I messaged a homeopathic doctor and he advises I keep her on it for 1-2 weeks, so here I am in week 2 and still reaping benefits, she sleeps amazing now and is so much happier!! It is lovely to have been able to take the discomfort away! I feel like SuperMum!! Read up on it, I bought mine from Holland and Barrett, 1/2 tab dissolved in 5 ml breast milk after every feed xxx

JUst wanted to add a decided to use this as I didn’t want LO to suffer further with side effects (constipation) of the usual prescriptions (ie Gaviscon) and also read that this will not resolve the problem only mask it and long term use of such products can be harmful to adults let alone babies xxx

Definitely try carobel with your feed I really notice the difference when I didn't put it in will prob half to change your teats tho if it's to thick for first flow. do you find the milk so runny it's like water. Yes that's the same they want her to stay on it 4 a few weeks I'm not seeing any difference with neocate and it's coming up for 4weeks It's so hard isn't it I've been in tears some days/night because she's in so much pain and I can't do anything and the chocking is so scary it's mainly after feeds and when trying to give her medicine how do you get LO medicine down her? the lack off sleep is a killer the only way I get throw it is keep telling myself it's not forever and it will get better lol!! Oh and lots of tea and cake [emoji23] It's had a massive effect on all of us and having to get some help from family have you got much support? Xx

Hi mylittlerainbow,

I am sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time with your lo. Hopefully with a combination of the nutramigen, ranitidine and carobel will help and you will see an improvement quickly.

You have had some great support here, and I hope you are feeling less alone. The nights are very lonely when your with a crying miserable baby. This Netmums article on reflux may offer you some further ideas of things to try.

If things don't improve after being on the ranitidine and carobel for a week do head back to your GP as there are other milks you can try and other medications that baby can have.

Best Wishes

Felicity

Hello I haven't read every reply so apologies if I'm repeating here.  My little girl had reflux up until the age of 3 when I finally got advice to go and see a cranial oestopath! Pay the money and see a good one because my daughter's reflux literally stopped soon after. I only wish we went when she was a baby! Good luck x
