Hi everyone 😊,
I was just wondering if you wash new school uniform before your children wear it?,I've brought all of my daughter's uniform and she starts school in September and was wondering whether to wash it all first or just take the polo shirts out of the packaging and just iron them or wash first?,her pinafores were brought on coathangers and don't need ironing but I always remember my mom saying when I was little that she would always take items from the back of a display incase people with dirty hands had touched the ones at the front!😂.
So wash or not to wash?,what does everyone else do?

I iron package shirts but I never wash anything first. Never even occurred to me TBH.

I do. Wash then label then iron. I think it seems so stiff otherwise. X

With all the chemicals used in clothes when making them, I always wash everything before wearing, even socks. New clothes without being washed makes me rashy and itchy

I think it's nice to wash first and put your own scent on them and like a PP said it makes them softer too x

Yes I wash it all first, i've got a 15 min cycle on my machine so just do that then tumble after so don't need to iron! Makes it all soft and smells nicer!

I have never washed new clothes and never will. I really don't understand why people do it? My ds starts secondary school next month and we have just bought his entire uniform and Pe kit, including a blazer and never in a million years would I even contemplate washing it before he wears it. When he was a baby I didn't wash all his brand new clothes either. Imo part of the thrill of having new clothes to wear is taking them off the hanger, removing the label and wearing them all crisp and new. I personally think once you start washing clothes they are never as nice as when they are first worn. Plus, I machine wash 3 times a day already and knowing my son, his clothes will be in the wash straight away anyway! It seems to be quite a new idea, washing new clothes. My dh would think I'd lost the plot if he saw unworn school uniform in the wash! Lol.

I just imagine lots of grubby fingers touching the clothes in the shop. Also when I was pregnant we bought some clothes for the baby from Asda/George and seeing the cashier rubbing the clothes along the barcode reader, then it going down the conveyor belt made me wonder how many germs were being transferred. I also don't know how long they've been stored in warehouses until being delivered at shops. Newborns shouldn't be exposed to lots of germs. Different strokes for different folks, as they say, but I love the smell of clean freshly washed clothes [emoji4]
