Don't panic... its perfectly normal that any injuries are reported to the health visitor. I remember her calling me while i was still in the hospital. I just explained what happened and it was fine. I was a bit upset that day as it was the last of many trips to the hospital as she was in a very clumsy phase but the health visitor was lovely and reassured me by saying its the parents that DON'T take their kids to be a

seen after an injury that the ones that would get investigated.

I don’t know a single mum who’s baby hasn’t rolled off something! Don’t worry!

My 8 WEEK old baby rolled off the sofa onto a tiled floor. 8 week old babies can’t roll!! But I promise you I turned my back for 1 second and he was on the floor! I took him to A&E and he was fine, but I also got a call from the health visitor the next day.

Health visitor said it’s standard procedure to let them know, had a quick phone call, and didn’t hear about it again! Easy!

Ultimately it can be seen that you called 111, so whether the gp’s opinion is you should of gone to a&e or not, doesn’t really matter. You followed the medical advice given to you! Therefore if a social worker did turn up at your doorstep (which honestly they absolutely won’t, and like I said, referring to hv is normal), then it wouldn’t even get past the first visit because you followed the medical advice and it’s a single incident.

Honestly SS are far too busy to intervene over something like this! They struggle getting kids off drug addicts and abusers, they are not coming for you! Xx

You are fine, honestly, I doubt there is a parent out there who hasn't had a minor accident with their tot or had their tot fall. Unfortunately there has to be a paper trail to ensure all the t's have been crossed and the i's dotted. The HV will probably just ring you and ask if all is okay and that will be the end of it. All will be well if you cooperate with them because you have nothing to hide (and if you did you wouldn't have rung 111 or called your doctors. You did what every concerned mother would).

I dropped mine on to the hospital floor at 2 days old. Thinking back the hospital should have been keeping an eye on me knowing I was on morphine but these things happen. She survived and will be 21 this year.

Trust me, every single parent had had a baby fall at some stage! Wether it be off the sofa or bed, it happens, and that's when we know not to leave them unattended again as they can move. Don't worry, they g.ps are just following protocol. They absolutely won't remove your baby unless there are any issues with care, they know the signs.

My baby at 9months old burnt her hand in the oil filled radiator, went to a&e and they had to call social services as standard practice. I was petrified, and horrified they think I could of burnt her myself but they questioned me and left happy. No further action.

How is there a netmums health visitor???? I’ve seen mine once in 6 months…. Single mum, first child, cried my eyes out on the one & only visit from mine, why isn’t there this support in real life & only online?? I’ve never felt more alone!

Sophie thats not right at all you shouldn't feel like that and they should have visited more and they are meant to do the pnd test at least 3 times xx

It is virtually impossible for SS to remove a child because the threshold is unbelievably high and applies to only extreme cases of neglect and abuse.

We have all had those near misses and learnt from our mistakes.

Your story is similar to what happened to my son around 8 months, left him on the bed turned my back for seconds and he managed to roll (some distance) off the bed. I natural wooden floorboards and I'll never forget the sound he made when he landed, still makes me feel sick. I called 999 and an ambulance arrived, I was hysterical when the paramedics came, managed to calm me down and my son was fine by this point had stopped crying etc. They did say as he was under 1 he would need to be taken into hospital to be checked over. By the time we got to hospital he was his normal happy cheeky self, wanted to play. Dr gave him the once over and assured me this happens more often than not, she knew of doctors who had this happen to them, my son was absolutely fine.

It's the norm for it to be reported to HV I had a call the following day.

I'm sure all is sorted now, but trust me if not! All will be fine

Thank you all so much for all your messages! It was so reassuring to read that I wasn’t alone, it’s so hard being a first time mum I’m always so worried I’m not doing the right thing or best I can do, and when something bad does happen I get into such a state!

Doctor saw my daughter and she was perfectly fine, no bruises, bumps etc! HV called me, she was lovely and also reassured me that these things happened. She said she would just be notifying we had a call but I have asked she can come by and help me baby proof the house as my baby gets more mobile. Again, thank you all for your messages its lovely to have words of comfort from other mums x

I'm glad everything is OK, but all the posts made me smile! We have all been there.

I wanted to tell you that when my lo was about 2 I dropped a full, large tub of sudocrem on her. Her eye to be exact.

You have never seen a more lovely shiner than that. A perfect round circle! I explained to nursery and everything was OK. She was also OK and didn't develop a fear of large white tubs or anything! 😁

Hi Sophie

I am one of the Health Visitor's here at Netmums. I was reading some of the comments and came across yours and wanted to reach out to you. I hope you don't mind.

I am sorry to hear that you haven't had much contact with your health visitor. Have you tried re contacting them to let them know what is going on and what you may need support/advice with?

You can always post within our drop in clinic boards Baby and child health - Netmums Forum if you have anything specific to ask - we will try and help as much as we can.

I hope you are able to reach out either to your own health visitor or to the Netmums team on the link above and we can try and answer any of your queries as best as we are able to.

All the best

Emma

Even if you went to a&e they report it to health visitor. Things happen we’ve all been there. They all just want to ensure baby is fine, and more to the point that you are ok and supported well. No services ever want to take children away from their mums. That’s their absolute last resort.
